2. You’ve been given £100,00 to start a media company.
What type of business would you create?
I would start myself off
as a freelance cinematographer. In this field, I could branch myself off
towards graphic design or try to land a gig with a major studio and work for
them on hire.
What would make it different from any other company (how would
it stand out)?
I would try bring a unique
flare to everything I did and try to have some sort of trademark on the side
too. Something to be identified by.
What type of structure would you choose?

I would choose to market
myself as a limited company. This is because of the advantages it has over
other structures, even if it has some disadvantages.
After Media Diploma or University, you can get a job in the
media industry. Find 4 jobs that interest you and write the details (Employment
and freelance jobs need to be included). BBC or Mandy.com might be useful. Put
screenshots of the jobs too.

I feel I would be suitable for this job as I have good
organisation skills and have done voluntary work similar to this before with
different companies.

I have done lots of editing experience in the past and if I
were to have a job in editing I would be able to produce better edits than I
do currently. I have had experiences from extra-curricular editing projects and within college editing projects too.

From an in-depth look at what a BTS Videographer is it seems
to be recording bloopers and behind the scene work which realistically seems
a lot like a camera operator which I have done a lot of experience within
the past.

I have done a lot of work with cinematography and
photography which are the ways a camera could be used in an operator role. I
have done multiple courses on photography and cinematography within my
educational lifetime.

I’ve chosen this course as media production is what I love

This one is the same as Anglia Ruskin but at a better university

Yet again it’s the same course as before just at a different
university so it’s my love of production that is driving me.

Research three companies that you’d be interested in working
for.
1. The
Walt Disney Company
2. 21st Century Fox
3. ITV
Write a draft letter to one of them, asking for 1-3 weeks work
experience over Easter.
Ensure you follow the proper letter format.
Don’t write sir/madam at the top of the letter. Go to the
trouble of finding out the name of the person to write to, it’s the least you
can do to.
Detail what you are looking for, why, and what skills you can
offer.

Dear Mr Osborn,
I would love to
work with the technical departments regarding media production. I am able to
work and manage social media and media production and have had a chance to develop my own skills.
I would like to
apply for a job with ITV because it has always been an inspiration of mine to
work with a big media company in media production. In the courses that I’ve done
I have had my biggest successes in Cinematography.
If you would like
to see what I have done then here is a link to my college YouTube channel:
